Coming Soon: A security guard division will provide physical and property security, crime prevention, detection, and patrol services for government and private contracts throughout the state of California.
About Cline Investigations
Kevin Cline is the President and Lead Investigator at Cline Investigations, LLC. He is a medically retired law enforcement officer with over 15 years of education, training, and experience as a full-time, sworn officer in California.
Since retiring from law enforcement in 2010, Kevin has accumulated over 16 years of education and experience in private investigation. He has always been passionate about helping others, and when he could no longer work full-time as a law enforcement officer due to physical limitations, he found a new path in private investigations. As a private investigator, he continues to provide professional services by assisting others with their investigative needs.
Here's a little secret: Kevin excels at working with families and law enforcement agencies on cold homicides and missing persons cases. He strongly believes that bringing a "fresh set of eyes" to a cold case can nearly always help find a solution, providing final closure for the victims, their families, friends, communities, and law enforcement involved.
From June 30, 2021, to July 22, 2024, Kevin coordinated and led the cold case investigation that solved the Cloverdale Police Department’s 1982 sexual assault and homicide of 13-year-old Sarah Ann Geer. Through my investigative efforts, professional contacts with the FBI, and newer DNA technology, I helped CPD locate and arrest the suspect, James Oliver Unick, after 42 years. Upon completion of the jury trial in Sonoma County Superior Court, the jury deliberated for less than 2 hours and convicted Mr. Unick of first-degree murder with a true finding that he also committed the sexual assault during the murder. Unick was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on July 10, 2026.
Kevin continues to work on high profile criminal cases across the state and plans on employing other qualified and experienced professionals to assist in his efforts to solve cold cases and find the truth.

- All rates/fees/investigative actions are agreed upon with the client before work begins.

- Some investigative services have a one-time service fee, while other investigations may require a minimum service fee plus hourly fees to complete the investigation as requested.
- Larger investigations may require an advanced fee to get the investigation scheduled.
- All investigative hours and costs will be billed against the advance fee in increments as agreed upon with the client.
